To the delight of Malaysians, Liang Liang the female panda which was on loan from China gave birth to a female cub on Aug 18, 2015 at 1.45pm.
According to the Malaysian Zoological Society Giant Panda Conservation Centre, the new addition was truly a surprise as they only suspected Liang Liang was pregnant but couldn’t confirm it. The pandas, Xing Xing and Liang Liang (formerly known as Fu Wa and Feng Yi) which arrived in Malaysia last May 2014 is said to set a world record by being the first pair of pandas to naturally reproduce in a short period of time while in captivity, outside of China.
A baby panda when born is pink, blind and almost hairless. They will develop their black and white fur within the month and will open their eyes around 40 days after birth. Currently, both mother and baby is under quarantine for 2 months before they are allowed for public viewing.
We look forward to visit both Liang Liang and her new cub soon.
