Ponnani Fishing Habour

poonani-resized

This picture of a fisherman cleaning his fishing net was taken at the coastal town of Ponnani. In the background, we could see fishermen selling off their daily catch.

Looking at the Ponnani today, it is hard to imagine that it was once a famous seaport and a favourite destination for Arab and European traders over 2000 years ago. Being one of the oldest port in Southern India, Ponnani is where Kerala’s second longest river, the Bharatapuzha ends its long winding journey which began in the Anaimalai Hills in the Western Ghats .
